2018 planned updates to Building, Fire, Energy and Elevating Devices Codes
The next editions of the Alberta codes are planned to be updated in the fall of 2018. This update will encompass changes that have not yet been adopted from the 2015 National Building, Fire, Plumbing codes and the 2015 and 2017 National Energy Codes for Buildings.
Municipal Affairs is working with Alberta’s Safety Codes elevating, building and fire sub-councils and the National Research Council (NRC) to review the code content and complete the publications. Further details on dates, training, costs and other related matters will be made available as the codes are developed and made ready for updating.
See the full notice from Municipal Affairs here. There are no anticipated changes to energy efficiency for Part 9 buildings with this adoption.
The 2015 and 2017 National Energy Codes For Buildings (NECB), which apply to buildings over three stories and 600 m2, are currently available from Codes Canada.
It is anticipated that the remaining changes to the 2015 National Building Code will be adopted without change in Alberta in 2018.
