2025 National Building Code Recommendations

BILD Alberta formally requested the Government of Alberta pause adoption of the 2025 National Building Code (NBC).

BILD Alberta estimates non-energy changes alone add $17,852 to $39,668 in new costs to a representative 2,500 sq.ft. single-family home. If Alberta advances to energy Tier 5, that figure rises to more than $128,000.

These increases are driven by provisions that will force a redesign of every production home model, create compliance pathways complex enough to routinely require engineering on Part 9 homes, and in some cases reference products or standards that do not yet exist. Most have not been driven by consumer demand or supported by adequate cost-benefit analysis.
