2. Implement an Affordability Impact Assessment.

Legislation and policy changes cost homebuyers thousands of dollars.

A formal assessment will ensure cost impacts, and unintended consequences are examined and mitigation strategies are approached collaboratively.

3. Address mortgage rules.

While mortgage rules are a federal government issue, there can be made in Alberta solutions.
Markets have cooled across the country, and the cumulative effect or change have now far surpassed the original policy intent.
Millennials (first-time homebuyers and young families) are being impacted the most by the latest mortgage stress test, which means they are being forced to rent and rental rates are increasing.

4. Let homeowners drive energy priorities

Albertans need to be able to afford energy efficiency.
Environmental leadership is a competitive industry – let the market drive innovation.
Address climate leadership by incentivizing energy retrofits in existing stock.

5. Bolster small and mid-sized businesses.

Protect Albertans from the underground economy – connect them with reputable local contractors.
The government supported consumer programs should require reputable businesses.
Help businesses – help homeowners through awareness education and retrofit grant programs.
