Tiered Energy Codes

BILD Alberta is assisting CHBA National on the Federal Government’s work to introduce Tiered Energy Codes into the National Building Code as a pathway to Net Zero. CHBA National continues to push for a practical transition to Net Zero that protects housing affordability.

Once Tiered Codes are adopted nationally (anticipated in late-2021), they would be slated for adoption in Alberta by late-2022. The Government of Alberta has the authority to determine which tier we will start at and whether any Alberta-specific variances are required. BILD Alberta has begun developing a proposed framework that seeks to establish a rigorous, Alberta-based review of the Tiered Codes to assess industry readiness and impacts on housing affordability.
