Single Family Awards

NEW! This year the Single Family Award categories will be by square footage of the home. Submit your entry in the appropriate category based on the total square footage.

For example: You are entering a home that is 1,000 sq ft on the main floor, 900 sq ft on the second floor for a total square footage of 1900 sq ft, then you'd enter it into the Single Family 1800-2000 sq ft category.

Basement development is optional to include however, if you are including any photo or floor plans of the basement, the square footage must be included and entered in the appropriate category.

These awards recognize excellence in the architectural qualities of a new home including overall exterior and interior design, use of building forms and materials, creative use of space, functionality of floor plan and overall appeal to a target market.   • Single Family Under 1500 sq ft
  • Single Family 1500-1600 sq ft
  • Single Family 1600-1700 sq ft
  • Single Family 1700-1800 sq ft

A single family home is a single detached home constructed in new community development. Homes built in urban centres on underused lots interspersed among older, existing properties in an established urban neighbourhood must be entered in the appropriate INFILL category.

Single family categories are eligible for the Small or Large Builder Pinnacle Award.

Infill Awards

NEW! This year the Infill Award categories will be by square footage of the home. Submit your entry in the appropriate category based on the total square footage.

For example: You are entering a home that is 2,000 sq ft on the main floor, 1500 sq ft on the second floor for a total square footage of 3500 sq ft, then you'd enter it into the Infill 2500-4000 sq ft category.

Basement development is optional to include however, if you are including any photo or floor plans of the basement, the square footage must be included and entered in the appropriate category.

These awards recognize the design and challenges overcome in integrating new homes into established neighbourhoods. Click here for criteria and submission requirements.

Infill Categories

  • Infill Over 4000 sq ft

An infill home is defined as a new home constructed on vacant, underused lots interspersed among older, existing properties in an established urban neighbourhood. 

Infill categories are eligible for the Small or Large Builder Pinnacle Award.

Energy Efficiency Award

The award recognizes excellence in high-performance homes that have an appealing aesthetic, including overall exterior and interior design, use of building forms and materials, creative use of space and functionality of floor plan.  Click here for criteria and submission requirements.

Energy Efficient category is eligible for the Small or Large Builder Pinnacle Award.

Multi-Family Awards

NEW! This year the Multi-Family Award categories will be by square footage of the home. Submit your entry in the appropriate category based on the total square footage regardless of the style of home (duplex, townhome, row home or apartment).

For example: You are entering a home that is 700 sq ft on the main floor, 650 sq ft on the second floor for a total square footage of 1350 sq ft, then you'd enter it into the Single Family 1200-1400 sq ft category.

Basement development is optional to include however, if you are including any photo or floor plans of the basement, the square footage must be included and entered in the appropriate category.

These awards recognize excellence in the architectural qualities of a new home including overall exterior and interior design, use of building forms and materials, creative use of space, functionality of floor plan and overall appeal to a target market. Multi-family Categories

  • Multi-family Under 650 sq ft
  • Multi-family 650-950 sq ft
  • Multi-family 950-1200 sq ft
  • Multi-family 1200-1400 sq ft
  • Multi-family 1400-1600 sq ft
  • Multi-family 1600-1800 sq ft
  • Multi-family Over 1800 sq ft
  • Multi-family Purpose Built Rental Unit

All units built as a part of a multi-family project must be entered in Multi-family categories. This includes duplexes, townhomes and apartment-style condominiums which all share at least one common wall. Definition for each product is as follows:

  • DUPLEX – semi-detached homes (two units attached)
  • TOWNHOME/ROW – three or more attached homes
  • APARTMENT – four or more attached units with a common entrance

If they do not share a common wall, they must be entered into the appropriate Single Family category. Note: Secondary suites are only eligible for submission in the Garden / Secondary Suite category.

Multi-family categories are eligible for the Multi-family Builder Pinnacle Award.

Garden / Secondary Suite Award

This award recognizes the design advancements made in new home construction and renovations to meet the growing demands for additional housing options. These innovative plans can address anything from affordability to multi-generational housing. Click here for criteria and submission requirements.

Garden / Secondary Suite category is eligible for the Builder Pinnacle Award or Renovation Pinnacle Award depending on the construction of the suite. Finalist points for this category will only be applied to one Pinnacle Award.

If it is new construction, secondary suite was built with the rest of the home or if the garden suite is new construction, any finalist points earned will go towards the Builder Pinnacle Award. If the suite was added to an existing home by way of a renovation or addition to a pre-existing garage, any finalist points earned will go towards the Renovator Pinnacle Award.

Renovation Awards

Projects in the Single Room (Kitchen, Bathroom, Exterior and Renovator's Choice) categories showcase a single room and may entail the reconfiguration of existing spaces and/or addition of new space.

Projects entered into House Renovation categories must involve more than one room and may entail interior and exterior work, including the reconfiguration of existing spaces and/or addition of new space. Single Room renovations can be entered as part of a House Renovation category as well as entered separately into the Kitchen, Bathroom, Exterior and Renovator's Choice categories.   • Home Renovation Under $300,000
  • Home Renovation $300,000 - $600,000
  • Home Renovation Over $600,000
  • Kitchen Renovation Under $100,000
  • Kitchen Renovation Over $100,000
  • Bathroom Renovation
  • Exterior Renovation
  • Renovator's Choice Renovation (Spaces that do not fit in renovation categories i.e.: sun-rooms, wine rooms, pool rooms, outdoor living spaces, basement, etc.)

Note: Suites must only be entered in the Garden/Secondary Suite category.

Professional renovation categories are eligible for the Renovation Pinnacle Award.

Developer Awards

These awards recognize excellence in performance by developer members who create attractive, exciting and innovative communities. All categories have a two-year eligibility period (except new community). Click here for criteria and submission requirements.

Safety Leadership Awards - FREE to Enter

The Safety Leadership Awards recognize builders and general members for their dedication to safety. We know our members have many great safety programs already in place and now it’s time to distinguish yourself from the competition. Each year awards are presented to companies that have found an innovative approach to their safety programs and whose staff excel in safety. Community Service Award - FREE to Enter

The Community Service Award recognizes a company that has demonstrated qualities of compassion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities in one year.

The company cannot receive any monetary benefit for the charitable activities/events or services listed on the application. Cash or product donations will not be considered for this award.

Community Service Award is FREE to enter. Builders, Developers or Renovators vying for a Pinnacle Award will receive FIFTEEN (15) points for entering the Community Service Award. Click here for criteria.

Innovation Award

The Innovation Awards recognize the advancements in products or services introduced to the local residential construction industry launched during the past year. The product or service will demonstrate the potential to positively influence the success of the entrant’s own business or those of their clients. Click here for criteria.

Pinnacle Awards

The Pinnacle Awards recognize the top builders, developers and renovators of the awards competition. Points accumulate by placement in the various categories along with points for community service, association involvement, safety leadership and customer satisfaction. Click here for the criteria.

  • THREE Builder Pinnacle Awards
    • Small Builder - A builder who had 3-50 building permits (January 1 – December 31, 2023)
    • Large Builder - A builder who had 51 or more building permits (January 1 – December 31, 2023)
    • Multi-family Builder
  • ONE Renovator Pinnacle Award
  • ONE Developer Pinnacle Award
